Nick rowe woodcraft

I use authentic heritage techniques to craft wooden items without the use of power tools or sand paper. I use locally sourced green wood obtained through storm damage and responsible forest management. My items therefore have little to no associated carbon footprint, are all completely non-toxic, food safe and bio-degradable.

About

My ancestrial passion for woodworking like many was ignited as a child playing in the woods making dens, forts and tools, spears, bows and arrows and swords. This was further embellished during Army cadet training where we spent a wild week learning to make shelters, cook food and provide for ourselves using only a bushcraft knife and what nature provided, as we all did not that long ago. Never have I felt more connected whilst sleeping under a hand built shelter and cooking over an open fire, to our heritage and hunter gathering past. I then proceeded to follow the societal led path of work to provide and operated a forest harvester in the north of England for 5 years, and then trained to become a power line engineer which I have been doing for 15 years now. I guess I have been working around wood for all of that time, whether cutting it or climbing it!Time and experience has now gifted me the perspective to see that I am no longer content following my career path, and that my true passion and path lay firmly rooted to wood working and in particular green woodworking. These age old methods of working with and crafting wood in its purest form requires no use of no power tools therefore hold little to no carbon footprint. It is a clean safe practice which our civilisation was build upon across the ages and I plan to contribute to the march of the global reform required to turn the tide with the mindless careless use of our planet #noplanetwasharmedFrom the earth, of the earth, returned to earth 🌎

For Sale

I have a certain amount of stock on hand, I also craft items to order upon receipt of a 10% deposit.

All of my items listed below are hand carved using only an axe and sharp knives, making each item unique and with no carbon footprint associated with their creation. They are carved using locally sourced timber which has been removed due to responsible forest management or the force of nature. Species typically used include sycamore, ash, alder, birch, beech and cherry.I am proud to say that I do not use power tools or sand paper, and all items are non-toxic and food safe. These utensils are especially suited to non-stick pans, as the wood will not damage of remove any special material on the cooking surface.Items are burnished and finished using hemp oil. Would not recommend cleaning using a dishwasher, simply use warm water with a little soap.Any questions with regards to existing items or commission pieces, information is on the contact page.
